Key West Fly Fishing
Fly Fishing on the Flats of Key West
Fly Fishing Offshore Key West

Key West is a fantastic destination for fly fishermen. Novice or expert, Key West has the fishery to entertain both. My approach to fly fishing here at Dream Catcher Charters is to show you the day your way. I am not a purist, this is my living I cannot afford to be. I have learned through my years of guiding that fly fishing is different for everyone. I adapt to what you are looking for in a fly fishing guide and make your day happen.

What's more, I will guide you for everything. There is not a species of fish that will eat a bait lure or jig that will not eat a fly. If you want to catch it on fly I will make it happen for you or find a fly fishing guide that specializes in what you are looking for.

For the flats grand Slam Saltwater fly fishing is very different from the lakes or streams up north. In order to catch one of the big three on the flats here in Key West (tarpon, Permit, bonefish) you will need a very strong double haul cast with fewer than three false casts and a consistent fly presentation with a straight line and properly place fly. This sometimes comes as a huge surprise to some of my experienced stream fishermen when the wind is blowing 10 mph and they are unable to give a decent 40 - 60 ft cast without the fly hitting the water in the forward or back cast.

For Having fun catching fish on the fly here in Key West, you don't have to be a Stu or a Flip to live the dream. We can target the species that are in your reach and with some lessons and patience we can get you to catch any number of fish including Barracudas, Sharks, Jacks, Blue Runner, Lady Fish, Pompano, Trout, Yellowtail snappers, Mutton snappers, Cobia and more.

There are two ways to fish with me on the flats with a fly rod.
The most successful has been in my bay boat with my bow mounted trolling motor. This seems to be the current favorite lately for my Permit Fly fishermen, Tarpon Fly Fishermen, and Bonefishing Fly Fishermen.
The traditional way is for us to take my flats fishing boat and let me pole you around and show you what is out there.
Either way I can offer you shots at fish. On the bay boat I can help you more with line management and instruction and we have a near shore option to hit the near shore reefs and wrecks.

Offshore fly fishing is a great accessory to add to any offshore fishing adventure. Myself and some other fly fishing guides here in Key West offer you the gear and the shots to catch any number of fish offshore including: Yellowtail Snappers, Blackfin Tuna, Huge Barracudas, Amber Jack, Yellowfin Bar Jacks, Blue Fish, Dolphin, Sailfish and Wahoo depending on what is available for the day you have booked. I fish offshore in my 32 Center Console Yellowfin.

Windy days do not mean we cancel your charter because you are unable to fly fish that day. We find alternate means of tackle to entertain you for the day of fishing. Now if it is blowing 25 or more we probably won't go at all.

Fishing is supposed to be fun. If fly fishing gets you aggravated let me know and I will share with you the phone numbers of many talented fly fishing guides that enjoy fishing with grumpy fly fishermen. Personally I am not into it. I like for my clients to enjoy the day and leave the stress at the dock.
