Key West barracuda fishing is exhilarating. I am Capt. Steven Lamp and I have a close personal relationship with barracudas and have been fishing for them for over 25 years professionally. Many say the barracuda is the number one sport fish in the Florida Keys I tend to agree. They are relatively easy to get to. Fun for anyone that loves a fish that hits hard. They jump, they are super fast, unpredictable, fight like a champ and release well. A barracuda may reach up to 4.5 ft and weigh as much as 30 pounds. Fish for them with light tackle spin fishing rods or fly fishing gear.
Barracuda Fishing Season
Barracuda fishing has a year season here in Key West. I can put you on barracudas any day of the year. If I were going to avoid a particular day of barracuda fishing it would be right after a really hard cold snap that drops our water temperature over night 5-10 degrees. Then they become lethargic till they acclimate which can take a couple of days.
Key West Fishing seasons vary for many species but not so much for the barracuda. If I were to pick a favorite time to go flats fishing for them it would be February through April. Using top water and mid level casting lures is a blast.
Barracuda Fishing Charters
Fishing charters for barracudas are typically done on my bay boat or my flats fishing boat depending on the time of the year and what my anglers want. I supply all the tackle both fly fishing and spin fishing. Lures and flies are all included.
4, 6 or 8 hour fishing charters can be booked. Typically 4 or 6 hours is plenty unless an angler would like to mix it up. Fishing Rates are the same as my flats fishing or backcountry fishing charter. See my Key West fishing rates.
Bring your camera, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. I provide all the gear you will need. You may bring a favorite fishing lure but please do not get upset if we lose it or it gets destroyed.
