Key West tarpon fishing report – April 2026. Winter seems to be dragging on in Key West with very mild temperatures down in the mid 70s most days and very brisk easterly winds sometimes up to 25 kn these past couple of weeks. My long-term forecast accurately goes out maybe 10 days and in that timeframe it appears we have a cold front coming in through on Tuesday of this coming week with some hard Northwest winds to start with clocking around to Northeast, and then of course, easterly and southeast winds after. I’m not sure this will have an effect on the tarpon fishing, but will take a look.
Key West Fishing Report - Tarpon
April typically has tarpon and the beginning of our flats fishing season here in Key West. With the exception of a couple of days last week, the tarpon fishing has been very good with lots of tarpon in town. Our tarpon fishing guides here at Dream Catcher Charters have been doing very well. Some of the half-day CHARTER reports have had 4 to 6. Fish jumped and mani fish landed for our clients.
For the exception of some days because of weather, we have been in the tarpon since February very consistently. I am seeing one of the best tarpon fishing seasons we’ve had in over seven years or since Covid. That’s great news to our regular clients who have been fishing with us for years and it’s great news for us as fishing guides for a new client so we can really impress them with one of the best and easiest to get to tarpon fisheries in the world.
Key West Fishing Tarpon Forecast
Like I mentioned in my weather opening it seems like there’s a cold front coming this coming week but I don’t think it’s gonna get very cold. Maybe Lows in the 72 degree range. The north wind will have its effect, but it will quickly switch out of the east then it looks pretty great weather-wise for jumping and catching some prehistoric monster Silver Kings.
Key West Tarpon Migration
Now, I’m not saying that the migration has begun but the number of fish we have here in Key West right now it sure seems like it has. Since I don’t believe this is the migration I can’t imagine what it’s gonna look like after the full moon the first week of May might just get insane.
